We have no written records between 1869 and 1887. What we do have has shown that the Ogden place as it was called was bequeathed by E L Tuttle to trustees Johnson, Jackson, and Williams on April 4, 1887 in the amount of two acres of land on which the church is located to be used as a colored church. It was stated that this property was to remain the property of the church as long as it was to be used for the purpose of the church. After which, it shall return back to Tuttle's heirs or assignees. Our history tell us that we have been in existence since 1869. The history that we have gathered over the years shows that in 1943 Ogden was under the leadership of W H Carter. We then have knowledge of Rev. Reed. Form 1974-2003 we served under the leadership of the late Rev. Hardy Lewis. Rev. Lewis was a devoted minister, teacher, husband and father who always instilled great values with in us. Under his leadership, we reached many goals and remained financially stable as we did so. Some of our accomplishments included the incorporation of services twice monthly, the addition of a finance room, indoor plumbing, ceiling fans, air condition, and carpet in the pulpit, the covering of the pews, a concrete porch, a handicap ramp, and outdoor baptizing pool, and the baptizing of a three generations family. Also, while he served us, he had several sons of the house that
serve with him at one time or the other. They included, *I J Bennett, *James Caper "Booster" Owens, Melvin Stucky, *Charles Gresham, and Clifton Spicer. His deacons were *Luster Bennett, *Major Anderson, Norman Bennett, *James Owens , Laster Fuqua, *James Jones, and Junior Deacon, Marco Harrington. Before his health totally failed, Rev. Lewis showed that he still held us dear a heart by providing us with a list of ministers to carry on the word of God until we elected another pastor.
February 2004, we elected Rev. Harry Hunter to serve as pastor. We have been blessed with his great leadership till present. God has sent us the man that he knew would be right for our congregation. Under Rev. Hunter's leadership we have accomplished many goals and are still working towards many more while remaining financially stable. Some of our goals are early morning and semi-monthly prayer services/Bible classes, Spring Revivals, Summer tutoring, Burial Policy for non-members, and Scholarships for high school members who attends college. Many repairs were made to the old church which included, rails for the handicap ramp, painting the sanctuary and an addition of a fellowship hall. Rev Hunter spent time completing most of those repairs. Our major milestone has been the building of a new sanctuary located on Spicer road. We moved in and dedicated our new building August 26, 2017. We are situated on two beautiful acres and the church has a capacity to hold three hundred parishioners. We have vaulted ceilings that allow spiritual voices to project a joyful noise to our Lord. We have a state of the art sound system and networking capabilities that can connect us to surrounding churches and the world. Since the construction of the new church, a media system has been installed in the Fellowship Hall. We have an overflow room upstairs that can hold at least 50 people, Also, the church has four Classrooms and Six Bathrooms.
Assisting Rev. Hunter on the spiritual journey is the son of the house, Minister Curtis Hinkle. The deacons that have served under the leadership of Rev Hunter are Johnny Bailey, Barnard Booker, Norman Bennett, *Warren Carter, * Tommy Owens, Quentin Ellis and Marco Harrington. We are believing and trusting God that He will continue to grow our membership.
We have come this far by faith in God. The Lord said, "upon this rock, I will build my Church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it." He has done great and marvelous things for us. We are glad today to be able to serve a good God, a God that cares. He strengthens us when we are weak and picks us when we are down. He is preparing us to do mighty and glorious work for Him and we move forward to develop new ways to share his word.
